UPS was founded in 1907 as a small messenger service. Today, UPS is a global fleet with more than 325,000 fleet assets. Among them are 115,000 package delivery trucks, including 100,000 in the U.S. More than 18,300 of its trucks operate on alternate fuel and advanced technology vehicles. Renewable natural gas is one alternative that UPS has settled on.
“It's been amazing to see the change of technology. I drove [a natural gas truck] 10 or 15 years ago and it didn't have the fuel capacity or the performance today. I'm happy to drive this truck because the performance and the longevity equals what the diesels provide.”
“When fueling a CNG truck, you don't have the mess with the diesel spilling. You just plug it onto the sides, click it in, turn it, flip it on and it fills itself.”
